NEW ORLEANS -- The Greater New Orleans legislative delegation is losing a key lawmaker.

State Rep. Tony Ligi, R-Metairie, is expected to give up his seat by the end of the year.

He accepted the job Tuesday of executive director and chief legal council for the Jefferson Business Council. Ligi served on the powerful House Appropriations Committee and is an expert on the state budget.

Ligi said the details of his new job will be worked out over the next several weeks.

Support of the JeffersonBusiness Council was key in the extension of the tolls on the Crescent City Connection.

He replaces David Andrignac, who is retiring at the end of the year.
