NEWORLEANS- Police are searching for a suspect they say struck an officer with his car after being pulled over for a traffic stop.

The incident occurred on Sunday in the 3900 block of Downman Road.

According to police, Officer Karla Baker had activated the unit's lights and sirens and the suspect pulled his car into the parking lot at Domino's Pizza on Downman.

Once approached by Baker, the suspect refused orders to get out of the car and locked himself inside. After a short period of time, the suspect accelerated and struck Officer Baker before taking off toward the high rise in his car.

Officer Baker was treated and released from the hospital with moderate injuries.

The suspect was described as having a brown complexion, being between 6' and 6'2' tall, wearing a baseball cap turned backwards, an unknown memorial t-shirt and jeans.

The vehicle was a newer model dark blue Chevy Impala.

The rear plate was a Louisiana temp-tag with pink numbers written as an expiration date. It was covered with a reflective obscuring plate.
