CHALMETTE, La. -- A Chalmette man is facing charges that he burglarized almost a dozen vehicles, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.
Jason Knight, 33, was arrested early Sunday morning after witnesses notified police of a suspicious man entering two cars around 2 a.m.
Pohlmann said Knight claimed he had permission of the owners to go inside the car, but that was proven to be untrue. The sheriff added that a small amount of money was stolen.
Knight was also tied to nine other vehicle burglaries through surveillance video. He faces nine burglary counts and resisting an officer.
Knight is being held in the St. Bernard Parish Prison on a $44,5000 bond. He has been arrested in the past on burglary, shoplifting and drug charges.
As many of the burglarized cars were unlocked, officials would like to remind residents to lock their cars to help prevent these kinds of crimes.
