NEW ORLEANS -- The battle over New Orleans taxi reforms continued Tuesday with disgruntled cabbies getting a temporary restraining order on any new taxi licenses proposed by the city.

The restraining order, signed by a civil court judge, gives the city's 1,600 licensed cabbies time to state their legal argument against any newcomers.

In their petition the cabbies claimed the city violated its own rules last month when it issued 105 new licenses.

The city won earlier court rulings against the cab drivers to implement a host of upgrades, including credit card machines, video cameras and newer cars.
