NEW ORLEANS Police are asking for the public's help in locating a person of interest in relation to a police-involved shooting, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Investigators say a three-year veteran of the force was shot multiple times while responding to an armed robbery just after 7a.m. Saturday.

Officer John Passaro was taken to University Hospital's intensive care unit in serious condition.

The person of interest is described as black, approximately 5'9' in height, about 140-160 pounds and between the ages of 29 and 31. He is said to have a thin build and brown complexion. He has an inch-wide chin strap beard and no mustache.

He may be wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans, police said.

He was last seen at the bus stop on the lake side of St. Claude Avenue near Poland on Saturday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:05 a.m.
