JEFFERSON, La. - A bike rider passing by a trailer home that was on fire rescued a young woman by breaking down the door with a piece of concrete Friday morning.

The incident occurred after a dump truck slammed into the trailer home causing it to burst into flames and destroying most of the home.

The fire, near Causeway Boulevard and River Road, shut down River Road for several hours as fire crews battled the blaze.

Witnesses said the sequence of events began when a pickup truck pulled onto River Road. A dump truck traveling on River Road struck the pickup and slammed into the home shared by Deborah Dupierre and her two sons.

Brandi Juneau, the girlfriend of one of DuPierre's sons, was in the home and had just left a bedroom before it was slammed by the dump truck. She was trapped inside, and, as it burst into flames, bike rider Mark Ducote was going by on a ride.

Ducote broke down the door and rescued Juneau.

'No amount of thanks could actually thank him,'said Juneau. Her boyfriend embraced Ducote as he was in the middle of doing an interview about the incident.

The DuPierre's home was a total loss. A family dog was lost in the fire.

The driver of the pickup was cited.
