NEWORLEANS-- A fatal accident has closed the eastbound lane of Interstate-10 after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit and run Tuesday.

New Orleans Police Department spokesman Officer Frank Robertson said the accident happened near the Louisa exit.

Investigators say an unidentified man on a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed somehow lost control of his bike and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.

The victim was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The highway eastbound was closed on the Highrise Bridge due to the accident, according to DOTD, but it has since been reopened.

The truck never stopped, and police are currently trying to track down the driver. If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
