SLIDELL, La. - A crossing guard at Northshore High School was struck by a vehicle driven by a parent dropping off her children at school Thursday morning.

The guard was taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital and was being evaluated.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, the guard was directing traffic for the school zone in front of the school when a motorist turned on to Panther Drive from Highway 190 East.

The spokesperson said the driver indicated she was temporarily blinded by a glaring sun and didn't see the guard. Her vehicle hit the guard who went over the hood of the car.

The traffic division concluded that the sun's glare did contribute to the crash and the driver was not cited for any infractions.
