NEWORLEANS-- Cassandra Johnson, head of the Criminal District Court Office of Community Service, was arrested Thursday for allegedly taking bribes and altering public records, according to the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office.

'Earlier this week, investigators from the District Attorney's office and NOPD officers assigned to the DA's office conducted a sting operation in which Ms. Johnson accepted a cash bribe in return for falsifying public records to relieve a convicted criminal defendant of his obligations to the criminal justice system,' said a statement Christoper Bowman, a spokesman for the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office.

Johnson was caught after a longterm joint investigation by federal law enforcement officials and investigators from the District Attorney's Office, said a press release from District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro.

According to the district attorney's office, the investigation was launched after complaints were lodged that Johnson was soliciting bribes to alter court records.
