BATON ROUGE, La. -- Drivers who have received toll violations on the Crescent City Connection this year may not have to pay their fines if a bill headed to the Louisiana State Senate is approved.

The measure would prohibit the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development from collecting fines from drivers who received tickets after the first of the year.

There's no word yet on what will happen to the nearly $48,000 in fines that have already been collected.

On May 4 voters will go to the polls for a second time to decide whether to reinstate the tolls.
