LORANGER, La. - A 26-year-old pedestrian was killed in Tangipahoa Parish on Monday night, according to the Louisiana State Police.

The fatal crash occurred around 9 p.m. on LA 445 approximately three miles south of LA 40.

Charles Favre, 26, of Springfield was walking in the northbound lane of LA 445 in a section of the highway without street lighting, police said.

As he continued north, a 2010 Toyota pickup truck approached him from the rear and struck Favre with its right front fender, according to the LSP.

Favre was thrown into the ditch on the east side of the highway and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The driver of the truck, Frank McDaniel, 34, of Loranger was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, according to officials.

McDaniel submitted to a breath alcohol test, and he showed no detectable signs of alcohol in his system, according to the LSP.

The highway was temporarily closed until around 10 p.m.

Louisiana law requires pedestrians to utilize sidewalks where accessible or walk along the left shoulder as far away from the roadway as possible. Pedestrians should walk against the flow of traffic, wear light colored clothing and stay out of travel lanes at all times.
