Sean Payton came back from his one season suspension a richer man.
This we knew.
Today, Forbes.com gave us an idea just how much wealth Payton has turned his success into.
The financial website lists Payton as the America's top-paid coach at an estimated $8 million a year, a half million more than the Bill Belichick, the next highest-paid coach.
Other interesting observations:
- Andy Reid parlayed getting fired from the Philadelphia Eagles into a $7.5 million job with the Kansas City Chiefs, a franchise searching to get out of the league's cellar.
- The top five highest-paid coaches all reside in the NFL, with the NBA's Doc Rivers becoming the best paid coach leading a team that doesn't reside in America's favorite sports league. In fact, eight of the 10 highest-paid coaches are in the NFL.
- Chip Kelly is 0-0 as a professional coach and his wide-open system still isn't proven to work at the NFL level. And yet, he's on the list as the ninth-highest paid coach in American sports at $6.5 million per year. He's $500,000 richer per year than San Antonio's Gregg Popovich, who has won four NBA titles and is two wins away from another league title series appearance.
