MAUREPAS, La. The mother of a two-year-old found unconscious with his neck caught in an automatic car window was arrested Monday, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office.

Candace Gordon visited a friend's house July 3 at Old River Road and left her son and 14-month-old daughter in her vehicle with the engine still running, Sheriff Jason Ard said.

The son of the 20-year-old Denham Spring resident managed to free himself from his car seat and began operating the vehicle's windows. The child then rolled the passenger window up onto his neck causing him to lose consciousness, Ard said.

A 911 call was made and the child was sent to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge and released from there July 6, authorities said.

Gordon was charged on one count of second degree cruelty to juveniles and two counts of child desertion. Gordon was released on a $51,000 bond Tuesday afternoon after being booked into Livingston Parish Detention Center.
