Timeline of gas well blowout:
Tuesday, 8:45 a.m.: The platform owner, Walter Oil and Gas, lost control of the unmanned well.A company performing work on the platform noticed natural gas below the sea floor started flowing out of control, and 44 people were safely evacuated.
Tuesday morning:Crews got to work trying to stop the leak.
Tuesday afternoon: The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement flew over the site and saw the cloud of gas rising from the rig and a light sheen on the water a half mile by 50 feet in the area.
Late Tuesday night: Fire breaks out on the blown out gas well.
Wednesday morning: Fire continues to burn
Wednesday midday: Drilling rig begins to collapse
