METAIRIE, La. Six times in seven seasons, Marques Colston has finished with at least 1,000 yards receiving.

Three times in the past four seasons he has scored at least eight touchdowns.

He has at least 80 catches in the past three seasons.

And he still hasn't earned a Pro Bowl berth.

Shocked? His teammates certainly are as Colston heads into his eighth season in the NFL.

'Just hearing that, it's kind of like, why? How is that possible?' running back Pierre Thomas said. 'You see this guy and all the things he has done in his past and still what he can do. He should have been one of those guys selected to be in the Pro Bowl.'

Yet, Colston is the least interested in earning a Pro Bowl spot, one that would identify him to those not used to watching the Saints play as one of the league's most consistent players.

'I need another Super Bowl ring,' is all Colston would say when asked if another 1,000-yard season would do the trick.

Truth is, Colston's nickname Quiet Storm tells you everything you need to know. He's not a rah-rah guy who will get in the huddle and deliver an impassioned speech to his teammates.

He just leads by example.

In 2012, Colston caught 65.9 percent of the passes thrown his way, 12th best in the league for receivers who played at least 60 percent of their teams snaps according to Pro Football Focus. His 1,154 yards were 15th most in the NFL in spite of seeing 854 snaps, the 13th fewest of those who played at least 60 percent of the season's offensive plays. And he did that in spite of playing the entire season with foot problems

This preseason, he was on the physically unable to perform list for the initial 11 practices of training camp and has sat out six of the past 12 workouts with what coach Sean Payton termed another foot issue.

Colston admits that he's not 100 percent and is trying to get as close to it as possible before the Sept. 8 opener against Atlanta. More than anything right now, the coaching staff has to be careful with Colston, who will play through an injury without a second thought.

'There are certain players, Marques being one of them, that not only this year but in years past we just have to look at the reps they receive during the week and be smart about it,' Payton said.

So, about that Pro Bowl. Will another 1,000-yard season do the trick?

Again, Colston doesn't really care.

'To be honest with you, that has never really been a goal,' Colston said. 'That's just a byproduct of being a part of a great offense. So more important to us is getting back on track in the wins and loss column.'
