COVINGTON,La. -- Three men are wanted by the St. Tammany Sheriff's Office for an attempted burglary and pistol whipping of a couple.

Around 9 a.m., the masked men, who were armed, broke into a home on Eden Street in the Abita Nursery subdivision. The men, according to the sheriff's office, were looking for cash that the son of the homeowner, who had been recently arrested and is in jail, had left inside the home.

'When the three men discovered the son had not lived at the Eden street residence prior to his arrest and there was no money there, they pistol whipped the couple,' the sheriff's office said. After the home's alarm system went off, the men fled in an older model, dark colored SUV, which was parked nearby.

The homeowners were taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information about this incident to call 911 or Crimestoppers.
