KENNER, La. -- The Kenner Police Department is investigating the death of a man who died in their custody.

Police say the man was stopped for driving with an altered temporary license plate. When the suspect got out of the car, police say he appeared to be chewing what could have been cocaine.

In a struggle to get the man to spit it out, police say he experienced some kind of seizure.

The suspect died at the hospital. Police say early reports show he had cocaine and marijuana in his system.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
