A highway in Bush, considered dangerous and deadly, now has a lower speed limit.

DOTD approved the new 45 mile-per-hour limit for a 1 1/2 mile stretch of Highway 21, referred to by locals as the 'Bush Autobahn.'

Back in August, we told you about an area councilman, Richard Tanner, pushing for the change after a bad crash that severely injured two children. Fire officials say they work, on average, 100 wrecks per year in that stretch of highway, many bad, some fatal.

In addition to the reduced speed, the state will also do some clearing along the highway.

Tanner says area legislators Sen. Ben Nevers, D-Bogalusa, and Rep. Scott Simon, R-Abita Springs, also helped make the limit change possible.
