HAMMOND, La. -- A homeowner plowing a field found what appeared to be human bones, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

The discovery was made Tuesday afternoon by the homeowner at a residence on North Brickyard Road.

The sheriff's office was notified and detectives were called to the scene. State Police and the LSU Faces Laboratory are in possession of the remains and are processing all evidence collected from the scene.

According to the sheriff's office, the LSU Faces Laboratory specializes in advanced research in the fields of Physical and Forensic Anthropology, and often provide a public service to law enforcement agencies through assistance with the recovery and identification of human remains.
