NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a home invasion in Central City in which a 77-year-old man was attacked by five men.

According to a police report, around 6:47 p.m. Sunday, the man was in the rear of his home in the 2700 block of South Liberty Street when his door bell rang. The man answered the door and was rushed by five unknown men who forced their way into the residence.

The victim was pushed onto his sofa and held there by gunpoint as the five men searched his residence. He was forced to open his safe and give the men the money and jewelry from inside of the safe.

The men fled the home with the contents of the safe.
