TANGIPAHOA, La. -- State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that took the life of a Baton Rouge man in Tangipahoa Parish.

Around 1:20 p.m., Cory Castro crashed his Chevrolet Suburban on LA 40, near Global Wildlife. Castro was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office, according to State Police.

Castro had been headed east on the road, when he veered left, crossed the center line and went off the road and slammed into a tree, according to State Police. The SUV ignited after hitting tree and became fully engulfed in flames.

Due to the fire, it is unknown if Castro was restrained or if impairment was a factor. A blood sample was collected from him so a toxicological analysis can be performed at the LSP Crime Lab. Those results are pending as this crash remains under investigation.
