NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are asking the public's help in finding a person of interst in an Wednesday carjacking in Algiers.

The carjacking happened in the 800 block of Bellville Street at about 1:35 a.m.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Shameka Patin -- also known as 'Moonie' -- and a friend asked the victim for a ride to Bellville Street.

Once they arrived at their destination, a person approached the victim's vehicle, brandished a gun and 'demanded his property,' a police spokeperson said. The victim fled on foot after a confrontation.

Patin and her friend were missing after the incident, and the victim's vehicle was gone.

Patin has not been named a suspect in this case, but she's someone police would like to talk to.
