JEFFERSON, La. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the death of a man in Jefferson early Friday morning.

According to Sheriff Newell Normand, around 1:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a 911 call of a subject shot at 718 Central Avenue.

First responding officers located the body of a 54-year-old male, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, lying near the front door of apartment 309.

He appeared to have been suffering from a single gunshot wound to the groin area.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A witness told investigators the suspect and victim, who live next door to each other, have been at odds for quite some time, and went on to say, that shortly before the shooting, the victim began kicking on the front door of the suspect's apartment.

As he continued kicking the door, the witness stated he tried to stop him.

The suspect, who was inside of his apartment, opened the door and fired one shot, striking the victim.

The suspect involved in this matter, identified as 61-year-old Frank Stewart, was taken into custody and transported to our Investigations Bureau for questioning.

According to JPSO, additional details will be released as they become available.
