Christian Brothers, St. Anthony of Padua announce school partnership
NEW ORLEANS - The Archdiocese of New Orleans announced the creation of a new school between Christian Brothers and St. Anthony of Padua, which will bring Christian Brothers into compliance with new regulations for Catholic schools.
St. Anthony of Padua: A Christian Brothers School will be operated by the Brothers of the Christian Schools on the St. Anthony campus, located in the 4600 block of Canal Street, according to the archdiocese.
'The new format will bring Christian Brothers into compliance with the Office of Catholic Schools' strategic plan, released in May 2013. That plan calls for all Catholic schools to be configured as pre-K through seventh, eighth through 12th, or pre-K through 12th by the 2015-16 school year,' said a statement from the archdiocese.
'But this is about more than being compliant,' Christian Brothers Principal Joey Scaffidi said. 'We want to design a program to best serve the young people of New Orleans.'
The new school will include aco-ed elementary for pre-K4 through fourth grade, an all-girls middle school for grades five through seven at St. Anthony of Padua campus and an all-boys middle school for grades five through seven at the City Park Campus.
'I am delighted that St. Anthony and Christian Brothers have come up with this bold and creative plan,' said Dr. Jan Daniel Lancaster, superintendent of Catholic Schools. 'And I am grateful to both Joey Scaffidi and Sr. Ruth Angelette for working together to serve the needs of our young church. This kind of collaboration is what Catholic education is all about.'
