NEW ORLEANS- It's one of the most famous streets in America, but Friday night, a bustling block of Bourbon turned into a crime scene.

Police say a double shooting in the 100 block of Bourbon Street sent two innocent bystanders to the hospital around 11 p.m. Friday.

A 19-year-old was grazed in the stomach by a bullet. A 51-year-old was shot in the forearm.

And a nearby business surveillance video captured the gunman in the act.

Police are hoping the images will help lead to an arrest.

In the video, a man in a white sleeveless shirt hands something to a man in a black hat and shirt walking next to him. Moments later, the man in the black shirt brandishes a .357 handgun. And in a chilling act of violence, he points the gun at the crowd and pulls the trigger.

According to police, the gunman took off toward Canal Street. They believe the shooting escalated from a large fight that broke out on Bourbon Street just before the shooting.

Rocky Ellenson, a tourist from Atlanta, was just around the corner.

'We heard about six shots ring out, and by the time we got up the block, you see all these cops coming by us,' said Ellenson.

But Ellenson said the violent act isn't going to stop him from enjoying Bourbon Street.

'You can worry about it, but no point in worrying about it,' said Ellenson. 'Just hope it doesn't happen to you.'

Police say they typically increase patrols after this type of crime, but don't believe it's a reflection on Bourbon Street as a whole.

'Right now, we're still looking at this as an isolated incident, this isn't an ongoing issue we believe is going to occur down here,' said Det. Nicholas Gernon, of NOPD's 8th District.

Meanwhile, those who live in New Orleans say they just hope the violence stops.

'It surprised me because it wasn't a main event. It was a regular Friday night,' said Elvin Wright of New Orleans. 'And, wow, what are you shooting out here for?'

While police continue to work on leads, they're asking anyone with information to come forward.

The suspected gunman was wearing a black hat and shirt. Police say he is in his 20s and between 5' 9' and six' tall with a medium build.

His alleged accomplice was wearing a white sleeveless shirt. He is also described as being in his 20s and between 5'9' and six' tall, but with a thin build.

If you have any information, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. You do not have to leave your name and could get a cash reward.
