NEWORELANS - Stan 'Pampy' Barre, a central figure in a high-profile corruption case and a Marc Morial administration insider, was released from a federal prison camp in Pensacola to a halfway house in New Orleans on Sept. 21, less than three years into his five year sentence, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

He is serving a five-year sentence on mail fraud, conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges.

Those charges stemmed from the role he played in helping to skim more than $1 million from a lucrative energy contract awarded by the Morial administration to Johnson Controls.
