NEW ORLEANS A 15-year-old boy was arrested after police say he was the gunman in three armed robberies in and around the French Quarter Tuesday night.
According to police, the suspect, whose name was not released, robbed a couple of an iPhone in the 1100 block of Royal Street Tuesday night. The victims said the teen produced a handgun and ordered them to hand over the phone.
A short time later, police said the teen approached two people walking in the 600 block of Frenchmen and demanded their property, which they handed over.
Just minutes later, police said someone sitting on the front steps of a home in the 2100 block of North Rampart was approached by the teen who pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's cell phone.
Police said Eighth District detectives tracked the stolen phones to the 5300 block of Urquhart Street where they arrested the teen.
Officers said they recovered the handgun believed to have been used in the robberies. When it was entered into the system, it was learned that the gun had been reported stolen from Slidell.
'Once again, our officers worked quickly to track down the gunman responsible for this series of crimes. Our detectives were on top of this situation from the start, and stayed with it until they made an arrest', said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
