KILLONA, La. Fire claimed the lives of a woman and her 3-year-old granddaughter early Friday in the St. Charles Parish town of Killona, according to the state fire marshal.

Catherine Isaac, 54, and her granddaughter, Kamri Ferria, 3, were killed in the fire inside their home, according to authorities.

Just before 7:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the home, in response to a medical call.

Firefighters discovered the residence on fire, and after extinguishing the flames, they discovered the two victims' bodies inside.

Fire investigators have determined that the fire originated from the master bedroom where both victims appeared to be sleeping.

There were no working smoke detectors present in the residence.
