A traffic stop in the Gert Town area spawned an investigation that may solve as many as 80 burglary cases from St. Tammany Parish to St. Charles Parish, New Orleans police said Wednesday.

An officer with the NOPD Second District task force stopped a vehicle in the 7000 block of Colapissa Street (which is about a block off of Audubon and Earhart) and found the vehicle being driven to be stolen, said NOPD Lt. Shaun Ferguson on Wednesday at the Second District's weekly Comstat meeting of ranking officers. The driver, 39-year-old Sherod Champ, lived nearby and through a search warrant found a number of other stolen vehicles at his home, Ferguson said.
