Slidell, LA. Afire at St. Ann Place that claimed the life of a woman is under investigation by St. Tammany Fire District #1, ATF and the State Fire Marshal, according to Chad Duffaut, spokesman for St. Tammany Fire District #1.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a home in the 1400 block of St. Ann Place. When they arrived at the home, the structure was fully involved in flames with smoke streaming from the building, according to the fire district, and neighbors told the firefighters someone was trapped inside the home.

'Firefighters immediately began rescue operations and were able to remove the unconscious victim from a rear bedroom by cutting a hole in the exterior wall. Firefighters provided advanced medical care until Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene,' Duffaut said.

The woman was taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital in critical condition but later died as a result of her injuries from the fire, Duffaut said.

Before firefighters arrived at the home, neighbors attempted to rescue the woman, but they were unable to get her out of the home, according to Duffaut. Two other people who were inside the home were able to get out, with one receiving minor burns.

The home suffered significant fire damage and is considered to be a total loss.
