NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police have made an arrest in a double murder that happened last week in the Seventh Ward.

Jeremiah Jackson, 23, is accused of shooting and killing Moises Hernandez, 46, and Jose Bardales, 30, in the 2000 block of N. Derbigny Street on Sept. 9.

NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden said the two victims were at a home doing electrical work on the day of the shooting. Two men opened fire on them when they were getting out of their truck, sending them to the hospital, Braden said.

Hernandez died Saturday from his injuries, and Bardales died Sunday.

Jackson faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Braden described him as a 'career criminal,' with past arrests for attempted first-degree murder and multiple weapons and drugs offenses.

'Looking at this suspect's criminal record, it's nothing less than shocking that he was given opportunity after opportunity after numerous arrests, to hit the streets of our city and commit one violent crime after another,' said NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas.

Police are still searching for the second gunman. He's described as a black man, about 6 feet tall and he was wearing black shirts and pants.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
