NEW ORLEANS -- A Baton Rouge company hopes to bring new life to the former site of Six Flags in New Orleans East, which has been closed and blighted since Hurricane Katrina

The Paidia company wants to retain existing elements of the former amusement park, add a water park, a movie production studio and other amenities.

So far the company's proposal is the only one that's been submitted to the industrial development board.

If the plan is selected, company officials say construction could begin as soon as this summer with an anticipated opening date sometime next spring.
