COLUMBIA, SC - Lexington School District Two is looking into a situation possibly involving multiple Airport High School teachers after Facebook posts were made about a student's senior photo.
Destinie Harwell, 18, decided last minute to include her 6-month-old son Romeo in the picture to be able to show him that anything is possible once he gets older.
'A lot of people don't graduate when they have kids,' said Harwell. 'I wanted him to look at it one day and be like 'If she can do that, I can do anything.''
However, what's believed to be a teacher's account posted a long status on Facebook saying values determine our behavior and it's ridiculous that the school allowed the photo to happen. Other people, also believed to be teachers, agreed, with one saying 'Amen!!!!' and another promising the picture would not make it to the yearbook and a complaint has been made with the photo studio.
'It made me feel really bad because yeah, I had him in high school, but it doesn't mean I don't have no values,' said Harwell. 'I value my son enough to actually graduate and do better.'
Harwell says she's now not looking forward to walking at graduation because she knows the commenters are judging her.
'To me he was saying that if you get pregnant in high school then you're wrong and you're just a bad person and you're bad role models,' said Harwell. 'Accidents happen.'
Harwell says she not only graduated high school six months early, but is already enrolled to start college in August.
News 19 has reached out to Lexington District Two. District Spokesman Jim Hinton replied saying, 'After a thorough investigation and depending upon the nature of the charges, the District will take appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, and if necessary, contact law enforcement officials.'
Harwell says she doesn't believe the school will take any action and is trying to put the incident behind her.
