The New Orleans Saints designated Jimmy Graham as their franchise player for 2014. The team insists Graham is a tight end, which would pay him $7 million under the franchise tag. Graham says he's a wide receiver, a designation that brings a $12.3 million salary. The two sides are in arbitration to decide the matter and some of the evidence is quite compelling, like the NFLPA saying Graham lines up at receiver 67% of the time, or the NFL quoting Graham's Twitter bio. Yes, his Twitter bio.
This is true. Graham calls himself a tight end on Twitter.
His official website says the same.

This is the sort of information with which pithy attorneys and wise-cracking judges on Law and Order would have a field day.
Though the initial impulse is to scoff at the Twitter argument, I'm on the fence. Sure, the 67% figure sounds far more convincing than parsing social media semantics. However, the 'how can Jimmy Graham be a wide receiver if he calls himself a tight end' question is tough to contradict too. In the end, I doubt two words on a Twitter bio are going to swing the verdict.

The final decision is expected in the coming days. In the meantime, I'm going to change my Twitter bio to 'international billionaire/playboy/scratch golfer' to see if that does anything for my status.
