KENNER, La. - Brian Grant was seen visually upset when he learned his friend, 38-year-old Lynedell Desilva had been shot to death by his wife early Tuesday morning.
Officers taped off the home on Kentucky Avenue in Kenner combing through the crime scene.
Grant said just hours before the shooting, the two were together and in good spirits.
'We were all taking pictures and we were enjoying ourselves,' Grant said. 'All he kept talking about was his kids. That was the last thing. He wanted to spend more time with his kids.'
What happened after that is what investigators are still piecing together.
They received a call from the couple's children saying Desilva and his wife were in an argument and Delsiva had a gun.
At that point things turned from bad to worse.
Sgt. Brian McGregor with the Kenner Police Department said, 'They heard the gunshots. When we got there we saw the kids outside and we found him shot inside and his wife trying to render aid.'
Family members tell investigators there was a history of domestic violence at the home, yet Kenner police say they didn't have any reported calls to the residence.
Police tell us the kids tried to break up the fight, but once a gun was involved they ran outside the house.
Investigators said the wife shot Desilva with her own weapon after he attacked her.
'The kids tried to intervene especially the oldest one, he is fourteen,' Sgt. McGregor said. 'He tried to intervene and tried to get the gun from him. He wife was struck with the gun.'
Brian Grant said emotionally, 'He loved his kids. He would give you everything off his back. It was no way it had to go that far.'
Police have not issued charges at this time, however, they have turned everything over to the District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed.
