SLIDELL, La. -- A Mandeville teenager on a walk was attacked in broad daylight Wednesday, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. on the St. Tammany Trace near Lonesome Road.

According to the sheriff's office, a 19-year-old Mandeville woman was walking on the Trace between the Koop Drive trailhead and Lonesome Road.

A man, whom the girl didn't know, approached the victim and grabbed her around the neck. A bicyclist was able to save the girl and scare off the man.

Deputies and K-9 dogs scoured the area and apprehended 26-year-old Edward Callahan nearby.

The sheriff's office says Callahan faces one count of second-degree battery. He may face further charges.

The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation, but the sheriff's office didn't say whether she suffered any serious injuries.
