Ethel Robinson, 65, was traveling north on La. 308 at about 12:13 p.m. when her 2007 Nissan Maxima was hit by Corey Melancon, 19, of Thibodaux, who was driving south in a 2008 Dodge Ram, police said.

Melancon drove off the right side of the road before over correcting to the left, crossing the centerline and hitting Robinson's car, police said. Robinson, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner's Office.

Melancon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his truck, police said. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

This was the week's third fatal crash on or near La. 308 and second near Lafourche Crossing.

Kenner resident Cesar Castillo-Ortiz, 29, was killed Tuesday evening when the SUV he was a front-seat passenger in went off the road and hit a tree along La. 308. The driver, 53-year-old Manuel Dejesus Velasquez Mejia, also of Kenner, is suspected to have been intoxicated and was charged with vehicular homicide.

On Wednesday morning, Thibodaux High student Adrian Ledet, 16, was killed on Laurel Valley Road when the pickup truck he was a front-seat passenger in overturned in a sugarcane field and he was ejected from the truck. Police said high speeds were suspected in the crash in which the 16-year-old driver of the truck Adrian was in clipped another pickup while trying to pass.

Blood was taken from Melancon, and test results are pending. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said. Routine toxicology tests are also pending for Robinson, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Thibodaux Police Department, Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office and Lafourche Crossing Fire Department also responded to the accident.
