An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday for allegedly running into an 11-year-old with his car while the boy was waiting for the bus.

Ryan Simmons, 100 Maria Circle, Houma, told Terrebonne sheriff's deputies that it was foggy when he drove from his mother's home at Belmere Luxury Apartments near at South Hollywood Road and Bayou Black Drive at about 7 a.m., authorities said. He didn't notice children waiting near the apartment, police said, and was positive he didn't hit anyone.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Simmons' blue Mustang veer right, striking the boy and running over his left ankle. The car then left the scene without stopping, police said.

Deputies who examined the car in the Terrebonne High School parking lot said they found evidence that dirt on the vehicle's right front fender had been rubbed off as if by clothing. Simmons was located and arrested.

He is charged with hit-and-run, and was released from the Terrebonne Parish jail after posting a $500 bond.
