PORT FOURCHON, La. (AP) -- The state transportation department says heavy trucks more than 14 feet wide that are heading south on Louisiana Highway 1 will need a police escort to the toll gantry in Leeville during work to modify the gantry.
Department spokeswoman Bambi Hall says those large southbound trucks will have to take what is usually the northbound lane to the toll gantry, so police will have to stop the northbound traffic there.
She says the work will begin Monday, and should have a minimal effect on normal traffic.
Hall says drivers may contact the local law enforcement agency of their choice to ask about escorts.
Further updates with width restrictions will follow as work progresses.
