HAMMOND, La. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Officers found a five-month-old baby unattended Monday in a home in which they also discovered a man and woman dead in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said.

Chief Dennis Pevey said evidence recovered at the house have led them to believe that Brandon Colona, 26, shot and Theresa Doby, his 21-year-old girlfriend, with a .40-caliber handgun before shooting himself.

Both lived at the home and officers are still unsure the motive behind the shootings.

Their five-month-old baby is in good health and with family member, Pevey said.

According to Pevey, deputies were notified of a 'welfare concern' at 11:45 a.m. Monday at 47359 Brittani Court. Officers arrived and didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

But when no one answered, and upon hearing a baby inside, they entered the home through an unlocked side door where they found the five-month-old, Pevey said.

Colona and Doby were found in the back of the house, both suffering from gunshot wounds, the chief said.
