METAIRIE, La. New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson left practice early Sunday after tweaking his shoulder, acting head coach Joe Vitt said.

Robinson left after falling awkwardly while defending receiver Adrian Arrington on a go route. Quarterback Drew Brees threw a back-shoulder pass that Arrington made a nice catch on in spite of Robinson's tight coverage.

His replacement, Johnny Patrick, briefly went down with a right leg injury but it turned out to be a cramp. Patrick returned later in practice.

As for defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, he again remained out of practice for the fourth day in a row. Vitt said the rookie, who broke his hand during organized team activities, should start conditioning with on Tuesday when the team returns to practice. He must sit out three non-padded days before getting into pads.

Meanwhile, tight end Dave Thomas sat out for the third straight day after straining his lower back on Thursday.

Vitt said they're bringing Thomas along slowly because preseason is so long this year.

'I'm not going to rush David along,' Vitt said. 'He's proven to be a very valuable member of our offense. Make sure is 100 percent.'
