NEW ORLEANS - A wanted child sex offender from Michigan was arrested in Belle Chasse near a bus stop Friday.
Rocky Russell Livermore, 51, had an outstanding sex offender violation warrant in Delta County, Michigan. He also was charged in Louisiana with unlawful presence of a sex offender to be physically present in, on, or within 1,000 feet of school property of any public or private elementary or secondary school.
The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office found Livermore to a bus stop near La. Highway 23 and Sara Victoria Drive in Jesuit Bend. Upon his arrest, deputies checked his name against an online database and found that he was wanted in Michigan for an outstanding sex offender violation.
He was then charged in Louisiana for being closer than 1,000 feet from a school after he was arrested within that range of Belle Chasse Middle School.
Authorities believe Livermore has been living in the New Orleans area for the past two years. They're trying to determine whether he had any contact with children prior to this recent arrest.
As part of a past conviction, Livermore is required to register as a sex offender through April 2035. He had not done so and had failed to update his information in Michigan before he moved. He was convicted in 2006 in Michigan for attempted sexual conduct second degree.
Livermore is in custody of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office. His hearing is set for Feb. 13.
