NEWORLEANS - Police said the four suspects they searched for Sunday night are behind two carjackings only hours apart.
Big events like the Satchmo Festival mean big crowds, and even easier targets for those who prey on unsuspecting folks in the French Quarter.
Saturday night was no exception.
'We had an armed carjacking at approximately 9 p.m. in the 500 block of Marigny,' said Sgt. Ernest Luster of the New Orleans Police Department's Eighth District.
The victims of the carjacking were two sisters, one of which is eight months pregnant and with her three-year-old daughter.
'The thing is we were walking with people, not people we knew, but people walking the same direction we were...we didn't feel like anyone was following us...and then we turned the corner and within five minutes, it happened,' one of the victims said.
The victim, who asked not to be identified, said three men approached her and her sister while they were getting into their vehicle along Marigny Street.
Armed with a black pistol, one man demanded they get out of the SUV.
'The thing was, can we get the baby, there is a baby in the car,' she said.
The three-year-old was strapped in the car seat at the time, and the women said they had to plead with the suspects to get the toddler out of the car.
A fourth man jumped into the car after they took off, the women said.
Just hours before this incident, the suspects were responsible for another carjacking in the 800 block of Clouet Street, Luster said.
The victim in that case was able to connect the suspects to the other carjacking through sketches.
Police only had sketches of two of the suspects and are still searching for the other two men
One of the sisters hoped her story will help others be more alert.
'I don't want to live my live in fear, and I want to enjoy my city, and I don't want that for people, but it makes you scared and makes you think twice about going to that area,' she said.
Police said they recovered the Honda Civic stolen in the first carjacking just a few blocks from where it happened.
Police are still searching for the white 2007 Jeep Compass taken on Marigny Street.
Anyone with information that can help police locate the Jeep or identify the suspects should call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. There is a reward.
