NEWORLEANS- Saying the city of New Orleans faces a funding gap of $100 million, Mayor Mitch Landrieu told the revenue estimating committee that he would lobby state legislators to allow tax measures to be put to a vote.

Landrieu said the funding gap comes despite a 10 percent increase in revenue year over year.

Landrieu is seeking to be allowed to hike property taxes to help pay for the firefighters' pension plan ruling and consent decree improvements the city must make to its police department and prison.

Landrieu said the city could not pay the looming firefighters' pension liability until funding is available and said they would have to wait in line behind other city liabilities.
