THIBODAUX -- The Louisiana State Police is investigating a Thibodaux motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 43-year-old Houma man and severely injured another.

Police said Byron Mabry died Thursday evening after he was ejected from his motorcycle, following a crash with an SUV on LA 3185.

Around 10:30 p.m., police said Jorge Gonzales, 21 of Thibodaux, was driving his SUV west on LA 3185 and tried to turn left onto Kettle Drive. Mabry and Francis Plotner, 46 of Houma, were traveling east on LA 3185 in a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

As Gonzales turned across the highway, the motorcycle struck the SUV, ejecting Mabry and Plotner from the motorcycle, according to police. Mabry was pronounced dead on the scene while Plotner was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with severe injuries.

Police said Gonzales wasn't injured in the crash and he passed an alcohol breath test. Mabry might have been impaired, but police won't know until toxicology reports come in following an autopsy.

Police said charges are pending and the incident remains under investigation.
