NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 47-year-old man who is believed to be homeless.
It happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Toulouse Street.
The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Officers were called out to investigate a call of a 'man down' in the middle of the street, and when they arrived, they found the unresponsive victim suffering from a stab wound to the chest.EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he later died.
Witnesses told police that they observed the victim involved in a physical altercation with an unknown African American male.
Witnesses said during the altercation, the unknown male shoved the victim in the chest causing him to fall.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the victim was also stabbed late Sunday evening around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Decatur Street.
During that incident, the victim was transported the to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The suspect in Wednesday night's incident is described as an African American man, dark complexion, 5'5'-5'6' tall, between 30-40-years-old.
Witnesses told police the suspect was last seen wearing a white jacket with possibly a red shirt underneath. He had a scruffy beard and shoulder length dreadlocks, according to witnesses.
