NEW ORLEANS -- The NFL bag policy will be in place for the Saints' home game against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. A reminder to college football fans, the NFL bag policy will also be in effect for the LSU game against Wisconsin Saturday at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The only bags that are allowed inside of the Superdome and Reliant Stadium are size-restricted, clear plastic and small, hand-sized clutch purses.
According to the NFL web site, prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
In order to carry anything in a bag into the Superdome or Reliant Stadium, Saints and LSU fans must pass muster with security guards at the gates, and officials say they will be strict in their enforcement of the new rules. All bags will have to fit within a size guide, similar to what airlines use to measure carry-on bags at the airport.
Any clear bag that is under the dimensions of 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches is allowed.
'A gallon freezer bag would be a good bag to bring. People are used to bringing that through the airport checkpoint,' said Eric Eagan, spokesman for the Superdome.
Fans can also bring a clutch purse that's not clear and is about the size of their hand into the game. The exact dimensions are 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
To avoid problems at security, one of the best rules of thumb is, your clutch that's not clear can only be a little bit bigger than a standard iPhone.
'We currently don't have any provisions to check bags at the stadium. So if your bag doesn't conform, you will have to figure out a way to stash it in your vehicle or in your hotel room,' Eagan said.
Each person is allowed one clear bag and one clutch.
Special accommodations will be made for inspections for people with medically necessary bags, like oxygen tanks.
