NEW ORLEANS The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office says a Motorcycle Deputy with the Sheriff's Office was injured in a two vehicle crash on Saturday.

A spokesman for the Sheriff's Office identifies the deputy as Hugh Blatcher. Deputy Blatcher was returning from an escort assignment at the time of the accident.

The New Orleans Police Department says the accident happened just after noon at the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and Leonidas Street. Police say Deputy Blatcher was traveling on Earhart Blvd. on his marked motorcycle when he was struck by a truck attempting to cross Earhart Blvd. on Leonidas St.

The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Blatcher was transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. His condition is unknown at this time.

The Sheriff's Office says the unidentified driver of the truck was not injured.

The NOPD is in charge of the investigation into the accident.

An NOPD spokesperson says charges against the driver are pending consultation with the District Attorney's Office.
