LSU released satellite photos of the oil spill and its movement since an oil rig explosion last Tuesday.

The Earth Scan Lab, in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences within the School of the Coast and Environment, is a satellite data receiving station and image processing facility for environmental data from six unique Earth observing sensor systems. It specializes in real-time access to satellite imagery and measurements of the atmosphere, oceans and coastal areas within the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea region. The data is obtained directly from satellite transmissions to three antennas on LSU rooftops.
