HOUMA, LA - The golf coach at Nicholls State University has been arrested in connection with a series of thefts from the country club where he worked as a pro, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office.

James Schilling, 35, is accused of taking over $6,000 from the pro shop beginning in March 2007.

The Sheriff's Office said an investigation began when the club reported thousands of dollars missing.

There is no indication that the money was used in any way in connection with his position at Nicholls State University.

Schilling was brought in for questioning on December 22 and was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of theft.

Schilling was released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center after posting $1,000 bond as set by Judge Jerome Barbera,
